The warmer weather is here, and the blossoms and daffodils are beautiful reminders that Spring has sprung. We’re officially out of Winter and Summer will be upon us in a few months. If that doesn’t put a Spring in your step, this will.
If you’re ready to spring into action with a little Spring cleaning, below we have 10 top tips to maintain a healthy home.

  1. Check windows and doors. These tend to get a little damp over the Winter months as we’re less likely to air out our homes. Now is a good time to wipe away any mould, dust and moisture, and have you’re windows fresh and clean.
  2. Clean heat pump filters. Our heat pumps have been keeping us toasty and warm over the colder months. If you haven’t checked the filter yet (which is recommended every month during Winter – now’s the time). Also, in order to meet warranty requirements, you must have your heat pump serviced annually.
  3. Wood Fire and Gas Fire Servicing. Yearly services are required in order to retain your warrantee. Our suppliers Lifestyle recommend Chim Chim for the cleaning of wood fires, as they use a suction method that doesn’t damage the flue.
  4. Cross-Ventilation. Now that the warmer weather is here, open your curtains, doors and windows and let your home breathe. This keeps your indoor air fresh and healthy.
  5. Check Outside Sprinklers. Now’s a good time to check your outdoor sprinkler system. Start by giving it a test run. Keep an eye out for any leeks and malfunctioning sprinkler heads. Make sure the sprinklers are watering the grass and garden beds, and not spraying on your windows as this can cause scaling.
  6. Guttering and Downpipes. Clean any debris and leaves out of your guttering and downpipes. While you’re up there, check your roof for any moss, mould, lichen or fungi build-ups.
  7. Garage Doors. In order to retain your warranty, garage doors should be serviced annually.
  8. Spray for bugs. Before bugs make your home their home.
  9. Concrete care. Moss and Lichen can build up over the colder months. Spring is a great time to carefully waterblast these areas before it takes hold.
  10. Smoke Alarms. Daylight savings is coming soon and this is when the New Zealand Fire Service recommend checking the batteries in your Smoke Alarms.
