Designing your own kitchen sounds like the dream—until you have to start making decisions and parting with your money. From tiles to layout, lighting to storage, trending kitchens versus timeless—the research phase can feel overwhelming. That’s why the Orange Homes design team works hard to streamline the kitchen design process for every client. To help you on your way, we have curated design inspiration from modern kitchens in our recent build list. With our penchant for the practical yet stylish, you are bound to find something that piques your interest. Visit our show homes to experience an Orange Homes kitchen for yourself.
Open shelving is an awesome storage solution when you’re strapped for space. Small kitchens can feel crowded with big cabinets taking up space. Alternatively, corner shelves save space and look sleek. Customise the crevices—if you have an unusually shaped angle or crevice, custom fitted cabinetry and shelving can make sure the space is utilised to its full potential.
If your kitchen space is particularly small, stick to whites and brights. Dark cabinets and benches will make the space feel even smaller. Mirrors also make a space feel bigger than it is, which applies to any room — but will certainly benefit a small kitchen.
Use the full height of the space, store things up high that you do not use very often.
A splash-back can quickly date a kitchen (the red glass splash-back era has well and truly taught us to stick to classic and timeless over trendy.) Avoid chaotic printed glass, or bold bright hues that will date quickly. Opting for your splash-back to be tiled will be the easiest to clean, and will offer the biggest variety of designs. However, there are several other ways to design a splash-back for your modern kitchen, without the need for a tiler.
From subway and terrazzo tiles to windows and marble slabs. The options are truly endless for a visually appealing yet practical splashback. The majority of our new build homes opt for a tile look, with subway tiles being the most popular option for their sleek and understated aesthetic.
Textured, terrazzo and alternative grout colours are currently popular in the tile space. For trending kitchen ideas, visit our show homes to see how Orange Homes can work with you to bring your kitchen splash-back ideas to life in your own built-to-spec modern kitchen.
If you’re into doing things a little differently, a window in place of a kitchen splash-back can offer a lovely view while you cook, or a great option for keeping an eye on little ones or pets outside whilst in the kitchen. A window will mean a lot of cleaning, but will make your space look brighter and feel bigger.
Kitchens sell homes (so they say!) And the island sells the kitchen… so we say! Doing your kitchen island differently can really bring your personal style into the space.
We love inbuilt shelving on the ends of kitchen island to be able to display nifty decor that reflects your own style. These Orange Homes builds have stunning kitchen islands, that really bring the whole space to life.
In recent years, there have been incredible technological advances that can allow for invisible stovetops right in your kitchen island, as well as kitchen island sinks with instant hot water, secondary sinks shaped as ice buckets, or even sparkling water taps. It is small touches and exciting innovations that make your kitchen island its most functional for you and your family.
